Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces are the most common method of orthodontic treatment and can be used to treat a wide variety of dental problems, including teeth that are crooked or misaligned, teeth that are overcrowded, large gaps between teeth and teeth which are rotated or protrusive.

They consist of metal brackets that are attached to the teeth and which are connected by a wire. The braces put pressure on the teeth, gently correcting their position, and as the position of the teeth changes the wire is replaced with increasingly sturdier ones, making sure the correction is as long-lasting as possible.

Traditional metal braces will be more visible than the more inconspicuous options such as ceramic braces, but they are much less expensive. Furthermore, modern brackets are smaller and less obtrusive than ever before, making the experience of having the braces more comfortable and less troublesome.

Ceramic Braces

For a more discreet, inconspicuous option for those who wish to have orthodontic treatment with the same effectiveness as fixed metal braces, clear braces, made out of tooth-coloured ceramic, are an ideal option and are available as a treatment option at Orthosmile.

These blend in perfectly with the teeth and when also paired with tooth-coloured wire, can become barely noticeable. These are a great alternative to conventional fixed metal braces for those patients who do not like the metallic appearance of train tracks on their teeth.

Suitable for children and adults alike, these versatile appliances are suitable for the treatment of most orthodontic problems and are just as effective as their metal counterparts.

This involves the bonding of advanced resin composite materials to teeth to improve the tooth appearance.

This can be restoring of worn chipped incissor teeth in a person who has been grinding their teeth whilst asleep for 30 years to their original youthful profiles or it can involve the bonding of the smallest amount of composite to the corner of a lateral incisors tooth to produce that perfect symmetry in a smile.

Bonding is a very conservative way of restoring teeth very often involving no tooth preparation at all. It is the ability to get a near perfect colour match to any shade of tooth and the ability to bond securely to a tooth that makes this treatment so successful and flexible.

It can be used to change the shape of teeth and their colour. So in mildly crooked teeth the illusion of straight teeth can be created by bonding.

Teeth Whitening

This involves the whitening of teeth using a bleaching agent carbamide peroxide. It works on teeth that have yellowed/darkened naturally through ageing and on young teeth that might be below average in whiteness. It is an excellent non invasive way to brighten your smile.

The process involves impressions, the making of trays to precisely fit your mouth in to which you at home will place a blob of bleach for each tooth, insert the trays and wear them for a minimum of two hours.

For some the teeth bleach quickly e.g. 6 sessions others will take some time e.g. 15 to 20 sessions. The effects will last between 2 to 4 years most patients top up the bleaching with a couple of sessions every 6 months.

Teeth whitening can deliver dramatic results in a relatively short space of time without the need of constant visits to the dentist.
